A humble shepherd in pastures, in nimble,

To a leader of the masses, a noble,

Chosen, anointed for peace, in limbo,

Iconic to nations, not a novice’

Emancipation, broken shackles at a price,

Nelson Mandela, a freedom genesis

A real son of Africa, godfather, Madiba tata,

Grandpa, significant to generations, a real enigma,

Reconnaissance, was the triumph over apartheid magma,

Robben Island, twenty seven, four, triple six, four,

Incarcerations, then victory effervescence, from zero,

Nelson Mandela, anti-apartheid hero.

Comparable to non, fare thee well, iconic leader,

The enthusiasm, we shall recall, a great fighter,

An advocate, legal, education, a democratic master,

Nine lives you had, like a cat, proverbial,

Inevitable this journey, destiny eventual,

Nelson Mandela, forever a memorial.

The signature, we will recall, the persona appeal,

The hearty smile, a noble soul, bold and real,

Clenched fist, a signature of freedom,

Spotted, grey patched hair, a signature of eons,

Soft spoken yet powerful, a baritone voice, seldom,

Curtain fallen, your leadership, a memento,

Nelson Mandela, epitome of great mentor.
